They offer scholarships for postgraduate certificates, postgraduate diplomas, masters, and doctorates.
Postgraduate certificates have a duration of 6 months and postgraduate diplomas last one year.
In the case of the master’s degrees, the duration can be extended between 1 and 2 years and the doctorates can last up to 3 and a half years.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS?
First of all, you must be 18 years or older at the time you start your studies. There is no age limit, however, they prefer applicants under 40 years.
You will need to apply for a student visa, as long as they offer you the scholarship and you accept it. To apply for this visa, you must visit the website of the Government of New Zealand and enter the “Eligibility Criteria” section. From there, you can apply.
You must prepare with time, the application must be made two or three months in advance, as it includes medical tests that could take.
Don’t worry about expenses; they will cover them as soon as you arrive at your university.
ENGLISH AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE:
The level of English required will depend on the university you wish to apply to and the type of study you wish to do.
As for the English test, you should not submit it at the time of application. Do not panic! All you have to do, if you are selected, is to take any of these exams: IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE Academic.
The New Zealand universities accept these three types of tests, provided you have obtained a good score on any of them over the last 12 months.
The accepted grade will vary according to the university of your choice, so it is best to visit the website of the same.
This exam expense must be covered by you, although the university offers you a semester of completely free English that is included as part of your scholarship.
You need to apply for a scholarship that relates to your previous work experience. Since they prefer students who, after their experience as a fellow, continue working in the same field.
That is why it is very essential that in your application, you emphasize how both are related. You have to explain how you plan to improve the social and economic development of your country. Strive for it!
In addition to all these requirements that I mentioned to you, the Government of New Zealand has been quite clear with respect to other aspects that also evaluate and take into account for your selection.
This is what they evaluate:
- Easy to communicate, listen, and answer questions.
- Personal motivation, ambitions, and desire to achieve goals.
- Resilience, stress management, and emotions living outside your country.
- Integrity, honesty, and ethical decision making.
WHAT AREAS OF STUDY DO YOU OFFER TO STUDY IN NEW ZEALAND?
The Government of New Zealand offers endless areas of study. However, they make recommendations according to the countries, and you have to know them to increase the chances of being elected.
In the case of Latin America, they recommend 4 areas:
- Climate change and the environment.
- Food security and agriculture.
- Renewable energy.
- Risk and disaster management.
Knowing each one of them is vital since the area you choose should be related to your work experience.
In addition, to complete your application, you must describe how the study area of your preference relates to the areas recommended by them.
You should also write the skills and knowledge that you want to obtain and how they could serve to support the development of your country.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS?
Make sure your country is among those accepted to apply for one of the scholarships.
To do this, you must complete an eligibility test, where they will give you an eligibility code that you will need in step 3. Write it on paper.
You must register with a New Zealand Government system called RealMe.
The username and password you enter will be necessary to access your scholarship application. Again, write it on paper.
With the code you obtained in the first step, sign up for the online scholarship system in New Zealand.
The system will take you to two different pages in the second step, and now in this one, don’t panic, it’s normal.
Fill out and submit your application before the deadline.
Remember that for all this you will need your RealMe username and password. In case for some reason you need to save your application and continue it later, you can do so using that data.
SOME TIPS FOR YOUR APPLICATION TO THE SCHOLARSHIP:
Your application must be written in English. If you write it in another language, as simple as you will be eliminated from the selection process.
You need to check your application a thousand times (yes, I don’t exaggerate). If you want this scholarship, you have to be 100% sure that the punctuation, grammar, and writing are in order.
On the other hand, do not exceed the limits of characters or words that allow in each of the answers. They must be between the minimum and maximum limits allowed.
This is obvious, but to clear up doubts … Don’t even think about committing plagiarism or copying responses from other applications!
If you have let someone help you during your application or that you have not done so, your application will be denied.
And probably most importantly, take your time to investigate.
Select the university that suits your academic and personal needs and chooses one of the areas recommended by them.
Your chance to dwell in one of the most beautiful countries in the world is nowhere to come true. You only need to put the organization, and you want from you, the rest is already done.
Remember that here you have a helping hand (really more than one) to help you resolve any questions or concerns you have. Good luck!
